World Cup obscenity

-

■ Every World Cup that I can remember has somehow been controversial but with this year’s location in Qatar, all the criticism is justified.

Eric Cantona is the only football spokesman so far to call it correctly. It is obscene that it’s being held there.

We should all follow his example and vow to not watch a minute of it.

There are a couple of reasons why that won’t happen though.

Fans are obsessed and if England win their first game in the tournament, any good intentions we had will be buried under the hype.

■ Paul Routledge is right about the need to improve public transport (Mirror, January 28).

Cars already appear to own the road, in my opinion. It stems from drivers thinking pavements were invented for vehicles to park on instead of pedestrians to walk on. Sylvia Harrop Tameside, Gtr Manchester
