PREMIER LEAGUE? SAY IT IS SO, JOE

- BY MIKE WALTERS

JOE CULLEN’S emotional Masters triumph has earned him a call-up to the Premier League.

In his first major final, the ‘Rockstar’ clinched his place on the four-month travelling circus with a tense 11-9 win against Dave Chisnall at Milton Keynes on Sunday night.

Just three months after losing his mum, Pam, to lung cancer – and with father Frank joining him on stage to share his maiden TV success – Cullen (above) pipped Fallon Sherrock, European champion Rob Cross and Jose de Sousa to the final slot.

Last year’s Masters champion, Jonny Clayton, went on to win the Premier League and collect four major titles in the calendar year.

Now Cullen – who was championed as a teenager by former Sky Sports commentator and bard of the oche Sid Waddell – could be on the road to multiple trophies, too.

The 32-year-old from Bradford said: “It’s a foot on the ladder and it’s something that a lot of players higher ranked than me haven’t done, so it can only be a positive thing.

“I’d love my mum to have been here to see me do it, but life’s not always fair. The win was for her.”

The Cazoo Premier League opens on Thursday in Cardiff.
