Teen Ben: I’m the youngest CofE warden
A TEENAGER has become the Church of England’s youngest church warden.
Ben Jenkins, 19, was elected by the congregation in its annual meeting.
He has been handed the keys to St Nicolas’ Church in the Suffolk village of Stanningfield and will manage the day-to-day functions of the parish.
Ben, from nearby Bury St Edmunds, now hopes to “make a difference” in the church and community.
He said: “The church is a really important part of community life in rural areas and I want to ensure this continues.”
Bishop of Dunwich The Right Rev Mike Harrison welcomed Ben to his role in a special service.
He said: “It’s wonderful to see young people coming forward to serve.”
