CANCELO IS TIED DOWN BY CHAMPS

- BY DAVID McDONNELL

JOAO CANCELO wants to achieve his dream of Champions League glory with Manchester City after signing a bumper new contract worth £13million a year.

Cancelo’s deal was set to expire in 2025, but he has penned a two-year extension with the champions until 2027.

The Portugal international (above), 27, is understood to have seen his wages rise from £150,000 a week to £250,000 under the terms of the new deal.

Cancelo, who joined from Juventus in a deal worth £60m in 2019, has made 106 appearances for City, winning three major trophies in as many years.

“Manchester City is a fantastic club, so I am incredibly happy to have signed this new agreement,” said Cancelo.

“City players have everything they need to reach their full potential, with amazing facilities, world-class team-mates and an incredible manager, Pep Guardiola, who pushes us every day.

“There is nowhere better to play football and it’s a pleasure to work here.

“I have three dreams as a player – one I have already achieved, winning the Premier League.

“The others are winning the Champions League and World Cup with Portugal.”
