SIMON Cowell has his arm in a cast yesterday after breaking it in a bike crash – and admits he is a “nutter” for failing to wear a cycling helmet.

The bright yellow cast had his dogs Squiddly and Diddly drawn on by sevenyear-old son Eric after the music mogul went over the handlebars last week.

It stood out against the 62-year-old’s black outfit as he left his West London home with fiancee Lauren Silverman.

The grinning Britain’s Got Talent judge said: “I’m OK. I’m feeling much better, thank you. It happened just around the corner. I’m a bit of a nutter. I’ll definitely wear a helmet next time.”

Cowell was taken to hospital for

X-rays after his bike slipped on a wet road last Thursday.

A source told the Mirror: “Simon was on the e-bike with his electric motor on, when the bike slipped on a wet patch.

“He went flying over the handlebars into the middle of the road and is lucky to be alive as he wasn’t wearing a helmet.

“There was blood pouring from his face but luckily he managed to get some help from passers by.

“He was taken to hospital and X-rays showed he broke his arm.

“He has his arm in a yellow cast and is on the mend now but will need to rest.”

It was Simon’s second e-bike accident, following a crash in Malibu, California, in August 2020 when he broke his back and had to have a metal rod inserted in six hours of surgery. He was kept off his feet – and TV screens – for months as he recovered from that crash.

Simon, who splits his time between London and California, is currently in the UK filming the new series of Britain’s Got Talent, which is slated to return to our screens in the spring.

He and fellow judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams were photographed attending auditions and posed for pictures on the red carpet outside the London Palladium in the middle of last month.

The ITV series was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

Last month Simon started leaving talks with many staff after deciding to close large parts of his Syco TV business.

Friends say he will prioritise working on-screen and “focus on his family”. Much of his work now is based in the US.
