Rikki’s mum: I didn’t make murder claim

- BY TOM PETTIFOR Crime Editor

THE mother of strangled schoolboy Rikki Neave has denied claiming she could get away with murder.

Ruth Neave was cleared of killing six-year-old Rikki, who was found naked and in a star shape in Peterborough, Cambs, in 1994.

James Watson, 40, is now on trial for Rikki’s murder at the Old Bailey.

Ms Neave told a jury she never said she could get away with the “perfect murder” in a conversation.

She also denied calling herself a “high priestess of the occult” or being into black magic with dolls.

Prosecutors allege police were focused on Ms Neave when they should have probed Watson, then 13.

Watson, of no fixed abode, denies murder.

The trial continues.
