MICHAEL Gove’s announcements are just more empty promises, say residents in West Yorkshire.

Among his 12 missions Mr Gove yesterday promised to bring the rest of the country’s public transport closer to London standards.

But locals blasted the Tory MP, saying they face constant bus cancellations and delays.

Recently bus companies throughout Yorkshire have been announcing bus cuts including a reduction in routes and services.

London-born Avril McKenzie, 69, top, who returned to Pudsey last year after setting up home in

Greece for 43 years, said:

“England has deteriorated.”

Jordan Ayre, 25, from nearby Keighley, West Yorks, centre, who is unemployed, said: “The North still needs a lot of rejuvenation after the damage that Thatcher did.

“This is all seems very empty to me. We have heard all this before, multiple times.”

Dad-of-one Charles Sloan, 56, from Armley in Leeds, who is a trade union rep, said: “They promised help for the North years ago but all I ever see is the money going to Tory MPs’ constituencies. The buses here are in a real mess.”

Rhydian Devereux, 26, bottom, a shop manager from Pudsey, said: “I do not believe a word that comes out of Michael Gove’s mouth.

“The state of our transport system is shocking, the bus pass has just gone up to £75 a month.

“There’s a lot of elderly here and you always see them sitting looking cold waiting for the bus.”
