-

What they are promising: By 2030 homicide, serious violence and neighbourhood crime will have fallen, focused on the worstaffected areas.

There will be 20,000 more police officers on our streets by 2023 and a £70million Safer Streets

Fund to improve the environment and cut offending in high-crime areas.

Verdict: There is a question mark over whether these targets can be hit. Under the Tories police officers fell from 172,000 to 150,000. Despite a vow to recruit 21,000 more, there are now 160,000. In the year to March 2020 there was a 7% rise in homicides and 6% rise in knife crime. Latest figures show fewer than one in 10 crimes are solved.
