Nestle shuts sweets plant
NESTLE is closing a UK factory, with the likely loss of more than 470 jobs.
The plant makes Fruit Pastilles, Jelly Tots, Toffee Crisp and other treats, with some production moving to eastern Europe.
GMB national officer Ross Murdoch blasted the closure of the factory in Fawdon, Newcastle, which is scheduled for 2023.
He said: “This will have a devastating impact on workers and their families.”
Nestle said most production will stay in the UK.
