RYANAIR has been named the worst airline for shorthaul flights, in a survey that also found three-quarters of fliers do their best to avoid it.

The budget carrier got an overall score of just 55% in a survey carried out by Which?.

Only 47% of its passengers were satisfied with how it handled refunds due to Covid.

The Dublin-based firm got just one out of five stars for seat comfort and two for the boarding process, cabin cleanliness and food and drink.

Passengers did give it three out of five for value though.

One customer told Which? that Ryanair “seems to be proud of being difficult”. Another complained of a “total lack of transparency about costs”.

British Airways fared little better, getting 63% overall. One passenger called it “a budgetstyle airline at premium prices”.

Jet2 was the only short-haul airline to win the Which? Recommended Provider stamp.

Which? Travel editor Rory Boland said that Ryanair had “plumbed new depths with its handling of Covid refunds”. Ryanair declined to comment. BA said it is “working hard behind the scenes” to improve. Airline scores: Jet2 82%; KLM 75%; easyJet 70%; Tui 64%; BA 63%; Ryanair 55%.

The Court of Appeal yesterday denied Ryanair’s appeal to overturn a High Court ruling that it must pay compensation to passengers affected by strikes.
