Replacing Johnson with a fourth would ditch a cynical charlatan. But the real problem isn’t who sits in No10 but the Conservative Party itself, an organisation incapable of governing Britain competently and fairly.
Providing three flops in a dozen years, arguably the worst troika to occupy Downing Street in history, is a damning record.
Cameron’s cuts inflicted pain, choked economic growth, piled up debt and squeezed the life out of the NHS before he lost Europe in a backfiring tactical referendum.
May played a bad hand badly, fumbled a needless General Election and lacked the skills to keep together a disintegrating party.
It’s touch-and-go whether Johnson, by far the most contemptible of the trio, will survive with even the lockdown reveller praetorians whispering that he is finished if he be handed a fixed penalty notice for law breaking.
Vultures are circling over the PM, who quoted monkey Rafiki in The Lion King to bemused Downing Street staff. Frantically ringing Tory MPs, he’s terrified 54 will write letters demanding a leadership contest. The Jimmy Savile smear against Keir Starmer blowing up in Johnson’s face shows the con man is losing his touch.
In the past he’d throw a grenade to create a diversion. Now it rolls back to mortally wound him.
But the plummeting living standards, tax rises, rocketing inflation, battered public services, rising crime, sleaze, corruption and lies are owned by the Conservative Government, not just Johnson. Putting someone else on No10’s steps may not for the Conservatives after four General Elections. Increasingly people want genuine change. Which is why the odds are shortening on Labour returning to power. Folk mistreated and taken for fools eventually revolt.
