Sir Gavin is the final Tory insult
ANOTHER totally undeserved knighthood handed out by Johnson as a reward for being useless.
I suspect Gavin Williamson knows where the bodies are buried and this is to keep him quiet. Yet again, an example of our “dishonours” system. Time for Labour to say enough is enough.
The whole system must be scrapped and no more knighthoods given. Any future honours should be decided by a politically independent committee and judged on genuine merit, not given out for political reasons.
Johnson and the Tories disgrace our country.
These inept Tories should be losing the jobs they are so useless at, as well as their seats in parliament, not handed gongs.

We are in the middle of the most serious situation facing Europe since the Second World War, so what does charlatan Johnson do? Throws a knighthood to the great failure Gavin Williamson.
Of all the ministers, he’s probably the worst of the lot. What kind of misguided leader does this? Hasn’t he got enough problems to deal with, not least the Metropolitan Police investigation into Partygate which hasn’t gone away?
The situation in Ukraine is grave, yet he can dish out knighthoods to the likes of Williamson. Disgraceful.
Keith Bowman Chesterfield, Derbys
The Tories are notorious when it comes to using the honours system to reward
their cronies for failure. But newly knighted Sir Gavin Williamson, aka Dad’s Army’s Private Pike, still comes as a massive shock, especially to those who believe in decency.
This surely brings the honours system into disrepute, degrading those who genuinely deserve them. It’s a disgrace.
Mind you, the Tory Party is utterly disgraceful these days. I can only assume the Partygate verdict is imminent and it’s a distraction for Johnson.
Bill Cook, Teignmouth, Devon
It seems there is no criteria to support this award. It’s a reward for failure.
When the Queen passes away or abdicates in favour of Charles, that should be the end of the honours list. No more awards for wh izzing around a velodrome or motor racing circuit. Accolades should
be for people at the end of their careers who’ve done great service. John Newman Ashington, Northumberland
I had to check the calendar to make sure it wasn’t April 1 when I read Gavin Williamson had been awarded a knighthood.
This must surely be the final nail in the coffin of the outdated honours system that makes the undeserving equal to the deserving.
Terry Wright, Derby
The American comedian Tom Lehrer once remarked: “Political satire became obsolete when Henry Kissinger was given the Nobel peace prize.”
Now we have our own version with Gavin Williamson being given a knighthood, presumably for services to incompetence. This is the definition of rewards for failure. John Lee, St Ives, Cambs
The war in Ukraine means minds have been distracted from fuel price hikes and Partygate. And now this knighthood, making a mockery of the honours system. Paul Booker, Clay Cross, Derbys
Yes. Let the West just get on with a no-fly zone and stand up to this bully Putin.
