No help fuelling more poverty...

-

THE rise in monthly bills for families has gone too far. Everyone is struggling and things will only get worse if the Government doesn’t step in.

If prices are due to rise again in October, how are people expected to find the money to pay for it?

The Government needs to get its priorities straight and help out the poorest. If people are already choosing between eating and heating, surely emergency measures need to be taken now to make sure families don’t have to make that choice again.

The CEO of Scottish Power says the increase later this year will be horrific. In my opinion, the energy companies are factoring in a percentage now on one and twoyear fixes.

Polls suggest that companies are inflating estimated usage with some charging 50%, and up to 75% more than the price cap for electricity. And the hope of a one-off windfall tax is a no-go as it will affect Tory party donations. John Newman Ashington, Northumberland

Even though EDF Energy has set aside £5million to help struggling families with their energy costs, this doesn’t go far enough. If things are only going to get worse, the Government needs to intervene.

Things just seem to be getting tougher and tougher and it’s the poorest being hit hardest. Trevor Symonds Middlesbrough

I am totally in favour of bringing in a cheap ‘social tariff ’ for poorer families. This would help the most vulnerable and those in need.

With bills skyrocketing for most people, this seems the only sensible way forward. As a society we need to make sure that all families and households can access affordable gas and electricity.

It feels as if the Government isn’t taking seriously the huge impact these extra costs will have. And the Chancellor is completely wrong – there are lots of things they could do to help struggling families. Philip Reynolds Stockton-on-Tees, Co Durham

What exactly is the Government doing about energy prices? Absolutely nothing! All these top experts are telling us that energy prices in the UK will remain sky high for the rest of the decade.

How are normal, working-class people supposed to live a decent life if they are forever having to play catch up and pay off huge debts?

These aren’t just the odd occurrence. Households up and down the country are dealing with the

same issues. While the fatcat energy bosses are pocketing the profits, families are coping without. Marcus Holmes Sandbach, Cheshire

So Rishi Sunak says there’s not much he can do about rising bills. What a load of rubbish. Yet again, he’s passing the buck. It’s his job to make sure there is enough money when we have such a problem.

And it is a problem. A huge one for families trying their best.

It’s only getting worse, so he needs to stop burying his head in the sand and sort this mess out

Ronald Grant, Stockport

I know of several families, mine included, finding it difficult to make ends meet. This month is worse than the last, and God knows how we will cope next month.

It’s sickening to hear the Chancellor say he “can’t do everything” when it doesn’t look like he’s doing anything! The sooner we get rid of the Tories the better.

I hope everyone uses their vote wisely at the local elections. This party is on its knees and people want change.
