‘BLUES HAVE TO LOOK IN THE MIRROR’
ANDREAS CHRISTENSEN says Chelsea’s players “need to look in the mirror” after admitting they have let themselves down.
He was brutal in his assessment of his own failings and revealed there was a dressing room inquest after the 4-2 defeat to Arsenal.
Blues boss Thomas Tuchel was furious and his side have now conceded 11 in their last three home games.
Christensen said the players accept it is not good enough, ahead of another
London derby with West Ham this weekend.
The Denmark defender said: “I think we have to take a look at ourselves in the mirror because that performance wasn’t good enough and we know we can play a lot better than that. We can only blame ourselves.
“We have to go again and I’m sure the fans will be there again at the weekend to support us.
“We have to stay focused because we want to finish the season strongly and ensure that we finish third. We’ve also got the Cup final at Wembley that we want to win, so there’s still a lot of important games.”
Christensen was substituted at half-time after his glaring error let in striker Eddie Nketiah for Arsenal’s first goal.
Christensen said: “I take 100 percent responsibility for the first goal, it was my mistake, but luckily we got back into the game quite quickly through Timo Werner’s goal. We kept making mistakes, though, and it’s hard to keep bouncing back.”
He added: “Since Thomas arrived at the club, we’ve always been strong defensively.
“We spoke about it in the dressing room because we’ve now conceded 11 goals in our last three home games – and that’s nowhere near good enough.”
