Addict mum guilty over death of son
A VILE mum has been convicted of fatally neglecting her asthmatic seven-year-old after he died alone, gasping for air.
A judge said Laura Heath, 40, “prioritised her addiction to heroin and crack cocaine” before the “needless, premature” death of Hakeem Hussain.
An image seen by jurors showed she had used foil and an elastic band to rig one of her son’s inhalers to smoke crack.
Heath, of Nechells, Birmingham, who admitted four counts of child cruelty, was found guilty at Coventry crown court of gross negligence manslaughter and will be sentenced later.
Two days before Hakeem’s fatal attack a school nurse had told a child protection meeting: “He could die at the weekend.”
