Magnet fishermen find stolen dollars & return to owner
A FATHER and son who found hundreds of dollars while fishing have returned the money to its rightful owner. Magnet fishers Kevin Tindale, 52, and his son George, 15, were amazed to pull a safe from the riverbed – and even more amazed to find it contained a pouch filled with 2,500 Australian dollars.
Also inside was a shotgun certificate and expired bank cards, which helped them track down businessman Rob Everett, whose safe was stolen in an office burglary in 2000. After contacting Rob to tell of their find, in the River Witham in Grantham, Lincs,
they visited him at his office in to return the cash last week.
Teenager George, from Newark, Notts, said: “It was amazing. We pulled this safe out and it had all that money in. We counted it on the bank
and we totalled it at about two-and-a-half grand. We were just shocked.”
Rob, who runs Winkworth estate agents and Money Options Group mortgage broker in Grantham, said: “There are some really nice and good people in this world. I was amazed that they’d been able to track me down.
“They could’ve kept the money but they wanted to return it to the rightful owners, and that says a lot.
“I gave a small reward to George, who’s a good mathematician apparently, and offered him work experience when he’s ready.”
