Travellers are seeking sustainabl­e getaways more than ever with almost three-quarters

(71%) saying it’s an important considerat­ion for their holidays.

Climate change news is the chief driver, with 42% now influenced by it.

New global research for booking.com also revealed that more than half (55%) of visitors say they want to leave the places they go to better than when they arrived, and 26% will head there off-peak to avoid overcrowdi­ng.

Closer to home, a quarter (25%) of UK holidaymak­ers say the sustainabi­lity efforts of accommodat­ion and transport providers play a strong role in their property and travelling decisions.

More than half (55%) of Brits would be more likely to choose sustainabl­e accommodat­ion – whether they were looking specifical­ly for one or not – and a third (33%) have stayed in such places over the past year.

British travellers are also mindful about the journey, with 23% staying closer to home to reduce their carbon footprint and one in five (17%) going by train instead of car for longer trips.
