O’SHEA: ANDY HAS TO STAY

- BY JAMES NURSEY

ANDY CARROLL has been backed to earn a new deal at West Brom this summer.

The veteran 6ft 4in targetman (above) signed for Albion in January on a shortterm deal until the end of the season.

He has since scored three goals in 14 Championship games and is keen to stay.

Ahead of today’s visit by Coventry, Baggies defender Dara O’Shea said: “Andy is an unbelievable player. We can play football but we can also hit him, which gives us two styles to our play.

“He is such a big presence, he tends to take two defenders with him. I’m buzzing to have him here and to learn from him.”

O’Shea reckons if Carroll, 33, stays at the club, he can form a fearsome partnership with £7million January signing Daryl Dike, who will return from knee injury next term.

He added: “I wouldn’t want to come up against them. Dike coming back is huge.”
