Monkeypox warning for Glastonbury
FESTIVAL-GOERS heading to Glastonbury have been warned to watch out for monkeypox after 50 new UK cases were reported.
Experts suspect the virus, which originated in Africa, is being spread by holidaymakers at raves.
The UK Health Security Agency said: “With many summer events ahead, we’re reminding people to be aware of the symptoms, particularly if you’ve had new or multiple partners.”
Symptoms of the virus, which is spread by prolonged skin contact, include a temperature, headaches, aches and swollen glands followed by a rash with blisters.
Yesterday’s new cases bring the UK total to 574.
Over 200,000 people are expected at Glasto, which begins on Wednesday.
