Chivalry is a tall insulting order

-

Readers will know I find most aspects of the monarchy beyond farcical. And this week’s Order of the Garter ceremony confirmed that view.

The Garter is the country’s oldest and most senior order of chivalry and members are personally appointed by the Queen. Tony Blair was made a member of the Order in a private ceremony attended by another member, Prince Andrew.

The Cambridge English Dictionary defines chivalry as “very polite, honest, and kind behaviour, especially by men towards women”. I wonder how mothers in Iraq would feel knowing that Tony Blair had been inducted into such an Order.

I wonder what every female victim of sex abuse thinks hearing that Prince Andrew attended the private ceremony because he is still deemed to be chivalrous beyond question. What an insulting farce it all is.
