Pals’ 4 peak conquest is summit else
TWO friends have become the first to climb the highest peaks in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in under 24hrs – without air travel.
Freddie John, 21 and Joe Atherley, 23, drove 560 miles, used ferries, ran 30.5 miles and scaled 13,000ft.
The pair, both graduates from Exeter University, began on June 8.
They climbed Slieve Donard in Northern Ireland, Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and then Ben Nevis in Scotland in 23 hours, 42 minutes.
Freddie said: “We had to summit Ben Nevis before 4.20am. I remember a quarter of the way up realising I had no energy left.” They completed it at 3.52am. They have so far raised more than £5,610 for their favourite charities.
