Mega-win Monday
Dreamgirls’ star Jennifer Hudson snagged a Tony Award – making her the first actress since Whoopi Goldberg in 2009 to get the EGOT.
For anyone who doesn’t speak fluent “Hollywood daaaaarling”, that’s short for an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award, which presumably means you can also afford the supersized mantlepiece to put them on.
The former judge on ITV’s The Voice joins an elite club of just 17 EGOT stars – including Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice and Audrey Hepburn. Dozens of others have EGOs but need more than a tea and a pat of the back to set them straight.
The Brit equivalent is presumably a BAFTA TV award, a Brit award, a BAFTA film award and an Olivier.
So no wonder we don’t celebrate it. “You’ve got the BBBO!” sounds less like a cause for celebration and more like someone... working up the nerve to suggest a pit stop at Boots.
