CHATTER? IT DON’T MATTER

- FROM MICHAEL GANNON

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER might be world No.1 but he’s happy to play the invisible man in his bid for another Major.

The 25-year-old (above) came out of nowhere to top the rankings with four wins in the space of a couple of months, including the US Masters in April.

Scheffler reckons he still doesn’t hog the headlines like rivals such as Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas, but that’s just the way he likes it.

Scheffler lit up the back nine at Brookline yesterday to move to three under par, bang in the hunt to bag another big one. He said: “I feel like I’m kind of an underBEEFED-UP the-radar person. I don’t really feel like there’s much chatter going around with me. Rory won last week, Tiger Woods (below) was at the PGA. I’ve been No.1 in the world for a while now and it doesn’t really feel like it.”

Scheffler is also happy to let McIlroy and Thomas deal with the civil war over the LIV Golf series.

He said: “Those guys have been on the PGA Tour for a long time. They are definitely going to be more the spokespersons and take the limelight because they deserve it.

“For me, it makes things a lot simpler. Those guys carry our brand, and I’m really happy that they do.”
