Macca plays warm-up for Glastonbury
SIR Paul McCartney took a long and winding road... and ended up playing a tiny venue in Frome as a warm-up for Glastonbury.
The 80-year-old Beatles legend played in front of 600 fans at the Cheese & Grain venue in Somerset.
He kicked off with Beatles classic I Wanna Be Your Man and then played a solo track, Junior’s Farm.
In blue jeans and a white collarless shirt, Macca, who headlines the Pyramid Stage tonight, told the crowd: “Good evening, Frome. Why am I getting a feeling we are going to have some fun?
“We’ve got some old songs and some new songs and some in-between.” VIPs at the show included Olivia Harrison, 74, widow of his Beatles pal George, actress Leslie Mann, 50, and Brian Johnson, 74, from AC/DC.
Sarah McDonald, who was there with her family, said: “We’re excited to see him. When the post about tickets went up people were sprinting down.”
As he left the stage, Macca told the audience: “Thank you Frome-anians, we had a good time in here tonight. “This was a good idea.” The Libertines and IDLES were among the acts playing Glastonbury yesterday, with Billie Eilish headlining the Pyramid Stage last night.
