Manchester Utd ace Maguire hires a £250k chateau for his big match
ENGLAND star Harry Maguire will today celebrate his marriage to Fern Hawkins with a fabulous fairytale ceremony in a fancy French chateau.
The Man United captain and the wedding party have arrived in Burgundy, in the south east of France, for the no-expense-spared do at the Chateau de Varennes, voted by CNN as one of the world’s top 10 wedding venues.
The couple had a low-key register office ceremony in Crewe, Cheshire, last month to provide them with a UK marriage certificate.
But Harry, 29, is believed to have paid more than £250,000 to ensure he, Fern and their two children, Lillie Saint, three, and two-year-old Piper Rose, have an unforgettable day surrounded by around 30 loved-ones.
The chateau is the most romantic setting for a wedding imaginable
CHAPEL
The chateau, which has been in the same French family for 400 years, has been transformed into a wedding venue, with a “Princess Suite”, 22 bedrooms and 18 bathrooms. The estate has its own chapel as well as an orangery described as one of the most beautiful rooms for a wedding reception in France. England keeper Jordan Pickford’s wife Megan Davison, 26, is a bridesmaid and Harry’s sister Daisy, 21, will be the maid of honour.
Fern celebrated her impending nuptials with an Aperol Spritz shortly after arriving in France. The men in the wedding party had a kick-around in the grounds of the chateau after the group arrived on Thursday.
They flew by private jet into Dijon-Bourgogne Airport then travelled around an hour to the chateau, where screens have been put in place around the grounds, before enjoying a family get-together on Thursday night.
A source said: “Harry and Fern are very excited to be having their big day here with all their lovedones with them for the wedding. “The chateau is the most romantic setting imaginable.” Fern, who has a first-class degree in science and physiotherapy, met Harry when he was 18 and part of Sheffield United’s youth team. They got engaged in 2018.
