We’re fans so thought it’d be fun

- JAY AND SARAH WATTS

After watching a show about Sin City, newly engaged Jay and Sarah Watts had their hearts set on tying the knot in Las Vegas.

Just a few months later the pair were at the Little White Chapel being serenaded by Elvis. Sarah, 56, says: “Elvis gave me away. It was the most magical day of our lives. Neither of us wanted a big white wedding with loads of fuss. “We are both Elvis fans so we thought it would be really fun and different.”

The couple have now been married for 22 years and have two sons Jack, 21, and Harry, 16. Sarah says: “Our sons find it very amusing Elvis was our wedding singer and only guest.” The bride wore a black dress contrasting with the flamboyant setting and guest. The King arrived in a pink Cadillac and sang I Can’t Help Falling In Love while walking Sarah down the aisle in 2000. She says: “Our lookalike was fabulous. I can understand why the company want to protect the Elvis brand if it’s about controlling the quality of impersonators.

“We also had a lovely preacher lady. They provided all the flowers and we got a stretch limo to and from the chapel.” The couple, from Twickenham, South West London, later hit the casinos and had champagne on a rooftop bar. Jay, 53, says it is “ridiculous” to try to control the use of Elvis lookalikes in Vegas.

He adds: “I’ve always loved his music and if I’m anywhere near a karaoke, I’m doing Suspicious Minds. “When we first decided to get married in Vegas, my next thought was Elvis has to be there.

“But it’s also because he is so intrinsically linked to the city. You can’t have one without the other.”
