Overseas the day
More than half of UK travellers are banking on cheaper foreign holidays this summer.
Researchers found 53% of Brits are planning to head abroad – and almost two-thirds of those (64%) listed the high cost of staycations as a key factor in their decision making.
However, despite seeking better value breaks, the study revealed that more than seven in 10 holidaymakers (76%) blow their budgets in foreign hotspots and 63% reported being ripped off on their last overseas getaway.
The annual Holiday Spending Report from Post Office Travel Money said travellers blamed prices for meals and drinks on flights, excursion costs, attraction entry and compulsory restaurant service charges as the biggest rip-off culprits.
All-inclusive holidays remain a popular choice for value, with twice as many families – 48% compared with 23% – preferring it to self-catering. postoffice.co.uk/ holidayspending.
