HUGHES HANDS CJ FORGIVENESS

- BY ALEX SPINK

ZHARNEL HUGHES has forgiven CJ Ujah for costing him a Tokyo Olympic medal with his failed drugs test.

The Great Britain sprint relay team (above) were stripped of silver, with one member Richard Kilty saying he could never forgive Ujah (far left) for his “sloppy and reckless” behaviour.

But, speaking at the British Athletics Championships in Manchester, Hughes said: “I forgive CJ. It’s sad and I felt bad obviously. I feel it, but I can’t do anything about it.

“It’s gone. We’ve been removed from the history books. I haven’t spoken to him in a long time.

“The last time I did he apologised and said sorry,” added Hughes, who qualified second fastest for the men’s 100m semi-finals in 10.18secs. “He’s a great guy, regardless.” Dina Asher-Smith (11.16secs) eased into the semi-final of the women’s 100m – hours after one of her main World Championship podium rivals failed to qualify at the US Trials.

Sha’Carri Richardson, who missed the Olympics after testing positive for marijuana, came fifth in her heat.
