CITY’S REAL EURO THREAT

-

MANCHESTER CITY could face Real Madrid in their quest to qualify for the main group stage of the Women’s Champions League.

After a third-place finish in the Women’s Super League last season, Gareth Taylor (above) and his City side enter Europe’s elite competition in an initial four-team mini-tournament format.

City will play Kazakhstan’s Tomiris Turan on August 18 in Group Four and if they are successful, they will face the winner of Real Madrid v Sturm Graz three days later to progress.

All fixtures will be played at the same location with the venue and kick-off times to be confirmed.

In the same league pathway to the main draw, Glasgow City will take on Roma in the semi-final stage of Group One. If successful, they face Paris or Servette in their bid to reach round two.

The other qualifying route is through the champions’ path, where Shelbourne, Swansea and Rangers are all included.

Ireland’s Shelbourne will face Pomurje Beltinci in Group One with victory over the Slovenian team set to book a meeting with Valur or Hayasa to decide who can make the round two stage.

Swansea and Rangers have both been drawn in Group Two.

The Swans will face PAOK and if they can get the better of the Greek side, they could take on Rangers for a place in round two after the Scottish team were pitted against Ferencvaros in the round one semi-final stage.
