FEARS RISE AFTER RAD NO-SHOW

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

US OPEN champion Emma Raducanu raised fresh fears about her fitness yesterday by cancelling an open training session at Wimbledon.

Raducanu practised at Aorangi Park but did not show up for a scheduled hit with former champion Garbine Muguruza on Court No.1. British wildcard Yuriko Miyazaki was drafted in to play the Spaniard.

British No.1 Raducanu suffered a side strain and had to retire after just seven games in her only grasscourt appearance this summer, in Nottingham. She was handed a tricky first-round draw yesterday against Belgium’s world No.46, Alison Van Uytvanck (left), who won the Veneto Open title on grass last Sunday.

Raducanu, who pulled out in the fourth round here last year with “breathing difficulties”, is scheduled to hold her pre-tournament press conference today.

She is scheduled to play on Monday, when the Championships begin, along with Andy Murray, who meets Australia’s James Duckworth.
