Kyrgios just the job for Brit kid Jubb

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

PAUL JUBB will face showman Nick Kyrgios in a glamour Wimbledon clash as all the Brits remarkably avoided seeds in the first round draw.

World No.45 Kyrgios shot to fame by beating Rafa Nadal here in 2013 and has reached world No.13. But the Aussie is better known for his controversial behaviour – and he was branded “an absolute k***” by Kiwi Michael Venus at the Australian Open.

Kyrgios went on to win the men’s doubles title in Melbourne and has shown good grass form this season in reaching the semi-finals in Stuttgart – where he lost to Andy Murray – and Halle.

World No. 219 Jubb (above) will be bidding to win his first Grand Slam match and the victor would stay on course to meet No.4 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round. There are 17 British players in the draw – the most since 2001 – with the 14 unseeded players all avoiding seeds in the opening matches.

British No.1 Cam Norrie will start against Spaniard Pablo Andujar.

Novak Djokovic opens his bid for a fourth consecutive Wimbledon title by taking on Kwon Soon-woo on Monday. But Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz, who beat him at the Madrid Open on clay, lies in wait in a potential blockbuster quarter-final.

No.2 seed Nadal, opens against Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, and is projected to meet Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada in the quarters. That would be a rematch of a five-set thriller from the French Open, which the Spaniard won on his way to a record-extending 22nd Grand Slam title.
