Brexit group ‘will back’ bill to axe NI deal
HARDLINE Tory Brexiteers are expected to back the Government’s plan to override post-Brexit trade rules in Northern Ireland as MPs vote today.
Conservative pro-Brexit European Research Group experts concluded the bill “properly reinforces” the Good Friday Agreement.
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss will tell MPs the new legislation will help uphold the peace deal by fixing issues in the Northern Ireland protocol.
EU ambassador to the UK João Vale de Almeida said the bill, which has its second Commons reading, is “illegal and unrealistic”.
