Levelling-up pledge ‘falls billions short’
LEVELLING up the UK needs investment “far beyond” what the Government is considering, a think tank has warned.
Income per person in the richest part of the UK, Kensington and Chelsea In London, was 350% higher than in Nottingham, the poorest, the Resolution Foundation found.
Closing the 30% productivity gap in Manchester alone would need tens of billions in investment and an extra 300,000 workers moving there, it added.
Lindsay Judge, the foundation’s research director, said: “The key to closing these gaps is to boost the productivity of major cities outside London.”
