Nettle nosh champs lick prickly task
THE world nettle eating championships gave spectators a lot to chew on as new records were set.
Brave contestants had to eat the leaves from as many 2ft-long stalks as possible in 30 minutes.
The Ladies’ Cup was won by Lindie Rogers after she got through 42ft, while YouTuber Niall was given the Men’s Cup for scoffing 54ft after a tense eat-off with rival Jamie Wallen.
The task is tricky as the leaves can cause tongues to swell and blacken.
Ryan Strong hosted Saturday’s gathering at his Dorset Nectar Cider farm in Waytown, Dorset. It was being held for the first time since the pandemic.
He said: “The contest went really well. There were 20 nettle eaters and nearly 1,000 visitors.”
