A van load of cash for toys

-

THREE Dinky toy vans made in 1935 and 1936 fetched £22,000 after an international bidding war.

One with “Meccano Engineering for Boys” on the side made £9,000, the others £6,240 and £6,720, far exceeding estimates.

Vectis Auctions, of Teesside said prices soared due to the toys’ “excellent” condition making them rare and sought-after.

Andy Reed of Vectis said: “Two were bought by a collector from abroad.”

Dinky Toys were made by British firm Meccano from 1934.
