CUD BE A GIANTS YEAR

- BY TREVOR BAXTER

Hull KR 10 Huddersfield 38

VETERAN centre Leroy Cudjoe scored his first hat-trick in a decade as red-hot Huddersfield recorded a sixth successive Super League win.

Cudjoe’s wing partner Jermaine McGillvary also notched his 200th career try as Ian Watson’s side moved up to third.

Even a suspected medial ligament injury for in-form Ricky Leutele could not ruin Watson’s day with Toby King, signed on loan from Warrington, a ready-made replacement. Cudjoe (above) scored his first tries of the season as injury-hit Rovers disintegrated after a promising start. And the former England back looks set to stay at the Giants next term.

“We have told the club and Leroy we want to keep him,” said Watson. ”He and Jerry have been great servants.’’

Rovers’ cause was not helped by first-half injuries to George King (hamstring) and Ryan Hall (rib cartilage). Mikey Lewis finished with a heavily bandaged leg.

Coach Tony Smith said: “The second half we didn’t have the same intensity as we had in the first.”
