EVERTON REFUSE TO LOSE GORDON

- DAVID MADDOCK

EVERTON will resist any attempt to lure Anthony Gordon away as Antonio Conte’s Tottenham line up a double swoop on Goodison Park.

The Blues must bring cash in to comply with Premier League profit and sustainability regulations before the end of the current financial year on Thursday.

Everton were hoping an agreement to sell Richarlison (below) could be put in place by then – with both Spurs and Chelsea interested in the 25-year-old Brazilian forward.

Yet the asking price of above £50million has been rejected by the London clubs, and Spurs are

considering returning with a counter offer which would include 21-year-old Gordon (top). But it is understood that the Everton board have ruled out such a move, with the homegrown star a huge fan favourite and integral to the plans of boss Frank Lampard.

And they will instead press ahead with negotiating the sale of Richarlison, who has indicated he wants to leave after four years at the club.

That, though, may not satisfy the Premier League and their rules demanding clubs stay within the debt limits for the four seasons from 20182022. The combined totals for 19-20 and 20-21 to cover the Covid seasons, mean a deadline is looming.
