A HUMAN cannonball suffered potential life-changing injuries when he missed the safety net during a dramatic circus stunt.

The unnamed 28-year-old daredevil, dressed as Captain America, slammed into a metal rail in the circus.

Children in the £14 ringside seats screamed as the masked man was left unconscious.

He was captured on camera just moments earlier, when he was shot out of the red, white and blue cannon.

Circus bosses say the man is one of only six “daredevil human cannonballs” in the world to attempt such a feat. Uncle Sam’s American Circus said the “artiste will make a full recovery over time” after the accident in Llanbradach, South Wales. Caerphilly County Borough Council says it is investigating the incident. Video footage posted online showed the stuntman crashing into the metal barrier below the safety net. He was seen lying motionless last Thursday as circus colleagues ran over to help.

Witness Cherokee Jones said: “The show went into an early interval, stating they needed to seek medical attention.

“He was out cold on the floor. They put the guy on to a mat and carried him behind the stage. The ambulance arrived in 10 minutes.”

The circus, which is based in Grantham, Lincs, bills itself as the “greatest circus on planet earth”.

On its website it boasts of Captain America: “No gimmicks, no pretence, his bravery has no limits. Seeing truly is believing.”

Gwent Police said: “A 28-year-old man was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff with potential life-changing injuries.”
