KAPOW! BATGIRL BINNED

£58m film won’t be released

HOLY smoke, Batman. Millions down the drain.

The movie Batgirl has been completely shelved by production giant Warner Bros, which is writing off the entire £58million costs.

Insiders say the DC Comics adaptation, starring Leslie Grace and Michael Keaton, will never make it to cinema or streaming service

HBO Max despite it being fully filmed.

They claim the movie was so poorly received at test screenings that Warner Bros decided to cut its losses for the sake of the DC brand’s future.

Bosses also cancelled the animated feature Scoob!: Holiday Haunt, meaning another £33million has been wasted.

A Warner Bros spokesman said: “The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max.

“Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor, and this decision is not a reflection of her performance. “We are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers of Batgirl and Scoob!: Holiday Haunt and their respective casts and we hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future.” It is understood the Batgirl canning was rubber-stamped by David Zaslav, who took over as CEO when Warner Bros merged with Discovery in 2021.

The film was set to be released later this year, with Grace, 27, playing the title role. She had previously been photographed on the set of the film, which was shot in Glasgow. Keaton, 70, was reprising his role as Batman, whom he last played 1992. JK Simmons, 67, was to play Batgirl/Barbara Gordon’s father, Police Commissioner Gordon. And The Mummy star Brendan Fraser, 53, was taking on the role of sociopathic pyromaniac army veteran Firefly.

Leslie is incredibly talented, this is not a reflection on her...
