A WORKER chatted to her colleagues about what they would do if they scooped the lottery – not realising she had already won.

Suzy Fenton, 44, bagged £10,000 a month for a year on Set For Life during the heatwave – and celebrated by buying herself an air-conditioning unit.

“I was chatting with colleagues about what we’d all do if we won the lottery – not knowing that I was already a winner!” she said.

“We were saying, ‘Would you still work?’. I remember saying,

‘I think it would depend how much I’d won’.”

But Suzy, who lives with her partner Ian, 51, an electrical estimator, and their Westie-Poo Flynn, in Wakefield, West Yorks, did not check her numbers until the next night.

“It said, ‘Congratulations, you’ve won’. But I’m thinking there’s no funds in my account.

“The ticket said, ‘You’re a winner’. It took me ages to work out the writing because my eyesight is so bad.

“I looked at my other half and said, ‘I think I’ve won something on the lottery’. I went upstairs and with the dog on my knee, I phoned and a woman said, ‘You’ve won’. I could not believe it. I shouted, ‘Dreams do come true!’. “Ian was over the moon, and grateful for air-conditioning as he’s worked at home since the pandemic.”

Suzy, who is a customer services administrator, said she may work part-time and will be having laser eye surgery. “I had a consultation years ago but it was not something I was going to be able to afford then.”

She had decided to have a go at Set For Life but switched her numbers at the last minute.

“I decided to play numbers which were close to my heart, such as birthdays and favourite numbers – and this certainly worked!”

She is now planning a trip to North America to meet friends she has only spoken to while gaming online.

And pooch Flynn will also benefit. “He’s allergic to lamb, turkey and chicken, so getting him treats are quite expensive,” she said. “I’ve already bought him a new harness and toy.”

Suzy’s ticket was one of four to win the second tier prize, while two top prize winners banked £10,000 every month for 30 years in the draw.
