The trouble with being with Harry

- with Ashleigh Rainbird

The many famous faces he’s been linked to are varied, but all Harry Styles’ significant others do have one thing in common: they’ve all been relentlessly trolled.

Which, understandably, makes dating difficult – even for someone so well practised.

From his very early days in One Direction, Harry’s lovers – who include Taylor Swift, Caroline Flack, Emily Atack, Kendall

Jenner and Nicole Scherzinger – were the targets of hate campaigns and death threats on social media sites, such as Twitter. The singer describes it as “a s***storm of people trying to be awful to people”. He admits to Rolling Stone UK: “That obviously doesn’t make me feel good. It’s obviously a difficult feeling to feel like being close to me means you’re at the ransom of a corner of Twitter.”

He continues: “Can you imagine, going on a second date with someone and being like, ‘OK, there’s this corner of the thing, and they’re going to say this, and it’s going to be really crazy, and they’re going to be really mean, and it’s not real. But anyway, what do you want to eat?’.”

Fortunately, girlfriend Olivia Wilde, who regularly trends on social media, thanks to such meanness, is philosophical on the matter, and believes the majority of his fans are “champions of kindness”. Speaking to the mag, she says the “cruelty” from the minority is difficult to fathom, because “that kind of toxic negativity is the antithesis of Harry and everything he puts out there”. Last week, Olivia, 38, won custody of the two children she shares with ex-husband Jason Sudeikis, the Ted Lasso actor.

And Harry, 28, is already looking towards starting a family, saying: “If I have kids at some point, I will encourage them to be themselves and be vulnerable and share.”
