SAINT NO STOPPING US NOW!

Magpies star Allan insists: We showed the world what we’re capable of against City ... and we’ll get better and better

ALLAN SAINT-MAXIMIN reckons the football world now knows resurgent Newcastle are back in business.

And in an ominous warning to the Premier League elite, he announced: “We will play even better and better.”

The Magpies gave champions Manchester City the fright of their lives in Sunday’s 3-3 thriller.

But Saint-Maximin, man of the match after a display Eddie Howe (left) described as the Frenchman’s best under his management, claims fast-improving Newcastle have only got started.

“The whole world can see what we are capable of doing,” said the forward, who had a hand in all three Toon goals.

“What we showed against Manchester City was good and it sends a message to all of the teams.

“We saw that in the last game of last season against Arsenal and since then, we have just kept going.”

Saint-Maximin admits there was a tinge of disappointment that the Geordies squandered a two-goal lead against City but is adamant the positives outweighed the negatives.

“We played against maybe the best team in the world and to lead 3-1 was incredible for Newcastle,” he added.

“I am really happy to play like that against the top teams and now it’s time to keep going, keep pushing and win more games.”

Saint-Maximin has yet to get a look in with France and while time may be running out if he’s to force his way into Les Bleus World Cup squad, he’s determined to carry on in similar fashion.

After the game, both skipper Kieran Trippier and Howe hailed SaintMaximin’s talent but called for him to produce that kind of super-charged display more regularly.

“I will keep working hard but I will say thank you to the staff, teammates and coach because they help me improve the way I play.”

Newcastle go to Tranmere in the EFL Cup tomorrow night.

Callum Wilson will definitely be rested after coming off against City with a tight hamstring.
