Harry’s minder is his old royal protection officer
Prince’s bill ‘thousands a day’
PRINCE Harry has hired his ex-royal protection officer to keep him and Meghan safe during their European tour.
Harry, who is fighting a decision to strip him of taxpayerfunded security, is understood to be paying thousands a day for two ex-Met Police officers.
One, David Langdown, has protected the prince for more than a decade, including during a 2012 trip to Las Vegas where Harry was pictured playing naked billiards with a stripper.
Mr Langdown, who retired from the Met last year, accompanied Meghan to New York for her baby shower, paid for by tennis legend Serena Williams and lawyer Amal Clooney.
Mr Langdown is understood to be a director of US security firm Broadstone Risks, which has protected stars such as Beyonce and Jay-Z.
A security source told the Mirror: “Langers is the best of the best… but he doesn’t come cheap and certainly the bill will be thousands of pounds a day.”
The Duke of Sussex is in a legal battle with the Home Office over the removal of his police protection after he quit the royal family in 2020.
Harry, 37, claims the decision was “personal” and in court said he asked to pay privately for specialist Met Police protection here, claiming it is “too dangerous” to visit the UK. He has been given the right to a judicial review over the decision. Yesterday Harry was all smiles. He was in Dusseldorf with Meghan, 41, to mark the one-year countdown to the German city hosting the 2023 Invictus Games. On Monday they faced boos and signs labelling them “fake royals” on arrival at a summit in Manchester. They are not planning to see the Queen, it is understood.
