Phil’s top times

- BY MELODY WILLIAMS and LYDIA VELJANOVSKI

Coming out: One of the most powerful moments in Phillip’s career was in February 2020 when he shared with the world that he was gay. The emotional presenter broke down, with Holly by his side, bravely sharing his story which no doubt helped many people.

NTA all-nighter: In 2016, Phil and Holly went a little hard after their NTA win and appeared on This Morning wearing last night’s clobber having been up all night boozing with Ant and Dec. The pair, a little worse for wear, giggled through the show.

80-year-old Iris’s confession: Guest Iris, an 80-year-old gran, visited the studio in 2020 to talk about her Egyptian toyboy, 35. Phillip explodes into awkward laughter when she admits she used “a whole tube of KY Jelly” during a night of passion.

Katie Hopkins comeback: Rent-a-gob Katie Hopkins was taken to task by Phillip when the ex-Apprentice star outrageously claimed she keeps her kids away from children with “lower class names” including those based on geographical locations. To this Phillip clapped back: “Isn’t your child called India?!”

Drag star: Phillip is so close to co-host Holly that in one episode the star dressed up in drag to look just like her. He surprised the new mum, upon her return from maternity leave in 2011, by wearing a blonde wig, heels and matching red dress. Holly was shocked, not least because Phil had the “best legs of anyone in this studio!”.

Pandemic reunion: The pandemic meant people couldn’t hug their loved ones, so when Phil was finally able to embrace Holly on camera earlier this year it was an emotional moment. They had been social distancing for many months, and Holly admitted: “This feels nice.”

Hottest Chip: Working on This Morning isn’t always fun and games, sometimes it can be very uncomfortable as Phillip showed in 2016 when he tried the world’s hottest chip. Red-eyed Phil began to weep and gasp for air, crying: “It’s like a fire in my mouth.”

Charmer: Phillip has tackled some big topics during his time on the show, not least his 2011 interview with Chelsea Charms, who had the world’s largest breasts. The host even had to demonstrate how heavy her chest was, lifting buckets weighted with watermelons – all in a day’s work.

Phil and Holly: A fan favourite moment of the show happened in 2016 when, after poking fun at Phillip for having a “clam stuck in his throat”, Holly makes a strange-sounding noise while laughing. The two burst into hysterics on air... for two minutes.

Uranus.. no, Uranus: Before it was Holly, Phillip was paired with Fern Britton until 2009 and the two shared many giggles. One memorable moment was when the presenters fell about laughing at the word Uranus in a quiz question – the howling hosts’ humour is infectious.
