CHILDREN are living in fear over deadly knife crime after a boy of 15 was brutally stabbed to death outside his school.

The warning came as police said a second teenager has been held over Khayri McLean’s killing.

He was left in a pool of blood at the gates of North Huddersfield Trust School at 2.45pm on Wednesday.

A pupil, Alfie, 12, said: “Something needs to change and change fast.

“Everyone’s got a weapon – if you’re in a fight there’s no way out.”

Khayri, described as a “wonderful student”, was ambushed by a hooded and masked male who had been apparently hiding in an alley.

He was pinned down and stabbed repeatedly before the attacker fled.

West Yorkshire Police said it was a “targeted incident” after sending in forensic officers and sniffer dogs. It is believed the knife has yet to be found.

At 5am on Thursday, armed police arrested a 16-year-old boy at his home two miles from the scene.

Then yesterday they confirmed a second youth, aged 15, had also been arrested that same day.

Khayri’s mum Marcia wept at the scene yesterday as she looked at tributes in her second visit. Last week, clips emerged of an attack outside a local church where two people were knifed. A teen was held.

In nearby Deighton a week before, a man’s hand was cut off.

A mum, 37, said her son moved schools after he was nearly knifed for refusing to join a drug gang.

She alleged a boy had been expelled from Khayri’s school last year after a knife was found in his bag, which led to routine searches.

But she claimed: “They just started hiding them in bushes outside.”

The father of one lad said: “It’s getting scary. Older boys are recruiting younger boys into gangs. People are carrying knives even if not in a gang.” Police moved to reassure locals over their murder inquiry and appealed for video footage.
