Club breath test to stop pre-loading
BARS are being given equipment to breathalyse drinkers in an attempt to stop clubbers pre-loading.
Durham Police said the initiative aims to tackle heavy drinking at home before people go out.
The breathalysers use a lights system to indicate if potentially unsafe levels of intoxication are reached.
Durham City neighbourhood inspector Dave Clarke said: “It will be down to door staff to judge individuals who might benefit from not drinking any more that night.”
Durham Police and Crime Commissioner Joy Allen added: “This scheme will ensure that the public don’t exceed a safe limit of alcohol consumption, leading them to put their own health, safety and that of the public in danger.”
