Taking Vit D pills ‘eases depression’
VITAMIN D supplements could be used to treat depression, say scientists.
They found the vitamin, made naturally when the skin is exposed to sunlight, helped with symptoms.
Patients who consumed 2,000IU of the vitamin daily, roughly 50mg, were helped significantly.
Best results came in those who took 4,000IU.
The team of researchers looked at 41 studies from all over the world.
Lead author Tuomas Mikola, of the University of Eastern Finland, said: “These findings will encourage new clinical trials in patients. It will shed more light on the possible role of vitamin D in treating depression.”
Around 4.5% of the UK suffers from the condition.
