LEAH’S HAPPY TO BE A CROWD-PLEASER

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

LEAH WILLIAMSON admitted there was a sense of relief that Arsenal were able to deliver on a recordbreaking day at the Emirates.

A new Women’s Super League-high crowd of 47,367 attended Saturday’s North London derby and the majority of them went home happy after a 4-0 victory over Tottenham.

Vivianne Miedema scored twice, with Beth Mead and Rafaelle Souza also on target. Skipper Williamson, who led England to Euro 2022 glory at Wembley in front of 87,192 fans, hopes the Gunners’ display will have left spectators wanting more.

“It was incredible,” said Williamson (below left with team-mate Lia Waelti at full time).

“Days like this, you want to celebrate the occasion but, actually, we’ve a job to do and we need to make sure we win. That’s what we did, and quite convincingly as well.

“It’s almost a relief we’ve performed in a way that might bring them back again.

“The occasion is great but you still have to turn up and do the job, and people still have to turn up next time.”
