MORRELL: WE FEEL ENGLAND ARE BEATABLE

- BY JAMES NURSEY

JOE MORRELL says Wales see England as “beatable” ahead of their Home Nations showdown at the World Cup.

Rob Page’s side joined England in being relegated from Nations League A but immediately started preparations for Qatar, where they will play USA, Iran and Gareth Southgate’s men in the group stage.

Wales, who lost 2-1 to England at Euro 2016, are targeting four points from the group to reach the last 16. And midfielder Morrell reckons finishing the group against the Three Lions on November 29 could work to their advantage.

Portsmouth star Morrell (above) said: “The England game is seen as the big one, the one everyone will talk about, the one that will take all the headlines.

“But we’re more than happy about that. I’m sure it was the same in 2016.

“That could work quite well but we’ve got three games and we might have to do well in all of them. We are going to need to get at least four points to go through.

“It probably worked quite well in the Euros to have Italy last. But, if it comes down to needing something against England, we’d be happy with that because they’re beatable.”

Wales were without the injured quartet of Ben Davies, Joe Allen, Aaron Ramsey and Harry Wilson against Poland on Sunday.

Bournemouth’s Chris Mepham and Ethan Ampadu also missed the 1-0 defeat at the Cardiff City Stadium through suspension.

But Morrell doesn’t think Wales’s lack of form will affect their chances in Qatar after the nation reached the World Cup finals for the first time in 64 years, courtesy of that unforgettable play-off triumph over Ukraine.

Morrell added: “There are no excuses. We know it’s an achievement to get there and it would be a shame to waste it. We want to go there and put a stamp on the tournament. We’ve shown we can match top teams.”
