LLORIS: THIS MISERY WILL SPUR US ON
HUGO LLORIS says Tottenham must be galvanised by the bitter taste of defeat.
Antonio Conte suffered his first loss in the Premier League this season at the Emirates, where Spurs have not won a league game in 12 years. But Lloris says they must use the setback as a motivational force ahead of a Champions League trip to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Spurs captain Lloris (above) said: “The taste of the defeat is something we don’t want to feel again. Every defeat is painful and, if we want to continue to grow, then we have to remember this feeling. As soon as you lose one game, you have to bounce back as a team and put together a run of good results.
“We have to be focused on the next game which is important for Champions League qualification.
“We have to respond in the best way because the best answer we can give is to win the next few games. But even when we were getting good results we were the first to say, as players and manager, that there was room to improve.
“It’s important, when you face a team like Arsenal, to make sure you don’t lose the game if you can’t win it. Unfortunately we couldn’t do that.
“But there are still plenty of games ahead of us. It’s always disappointing for the players and the fans to lose a derby because these games mean a lot. But now we must respond by getting a run of good results.”
Things looked bright for Spurs when Harry Kane (left) hauled them level from the spot but in the second half they fell
apart after Emerson Royal had been sent off for a senseless challenge on Gabriel Martinelli.
They have now dropped four points behind their north London rivals, who sit top of the table.
